Pens 101
-
BALLPOINT
When you think of the typical pen, this is the pen that comes to mind. It is an oil-based ink that sits on top of its surfaces, which is perfect for glossy paper and unlike gel pens, these last forever.
-
ROLLERBALL
These are very similar to the ballpoint but instead of oil-based ink, they use water-based ink which makes them a smoother alternative to their ballpoint cousin.
-
GEL
These are a type of rollerball ink but instead of being water-based, its gel-based. The difference there is that gel inks can handle more pigment, so you have brighter and more fun colour options (and we think they are bit smoother than the rollerball).
-
HYBRID
This is a blend of ballpoint and rollerball which means the ink is both water and oil-based. They tend to be quick drying and have bold colour options, so this offers you a smooth choice with minimal dry time.
-
STYLUS
This is that little rubbery half ball you may find on the tip or plunger of your pen. It's used on digital surfaces like a tablet or cell phone in place of your fingertip.
